Backup Documents 02/10/2009 Item # 4D 40 PROCLAMA TION WHEREAS, The Humane Society Naples is Collier Countys premier no-kill pet shelter, adoption center, humane animal clinic, and professional dog training program; and, WHEREAS, it is one of Collier Countys oldest, private charities that takes in over 1,500 orphaned pets each year and has found loving homes for more than 1,500 pets last year and more than 77. 000 companion animals since its incorporation in 1960: and, WHEREAS, it serves as a networking resource for pet owners and other area pet rescues, as well as promoting responsible pet ownership and pet education while working to reduce pet population by sterilizing more than 2,000 pets each year; and, WHEREAS, the Humane Society helps low-income pet owners by providing their pets with low-cost veterinary care, and thoroughly enjoys and appreciates the support of the more than 300 volunteers; and, WHEREAS, the Humane Society is building a 6,000 gpJDre foot addition and renovating their current 6,000 square foot facility where they plan to ultimate/y house approximately BO cats and 40 dogs: and, WHEREAS, this new facility will not only increase the organizations capacity to house surrendered pets, but will enable the Humane Society Naples to welcome more pets and peaple into a comfortable and appealing environment, thus increasing adoptions: and, WHEREAS, the Humane Society is planning a groundbreaking ceremony for February 26, 2009. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that The Humane Society Naples be recognized for their contribution to Collier County residents and their pets and with the organization continued success in providing these wonderful services to our community.
