PROCLAMA TION
WHEREAS, on Earth Day 2009, the Conservancy of Southwest Florida breaks ground on
a campus renovation project designed to be a model for green building,
sustainability, and environmental responsibility in America: and.
WHEREAS, we celebrate the start of a project that will surely become an important
part of Florida$ environmental history, and of paromount importance to the
movement toward sustainability in the state of Florida: and.
WHEREAS, the 21-acre Conservancy campus will feature a new wildlife rehabilitation
center, nature center, education center, and a filter marsh designed to
enhance Naples Bay water quality: and.
WHEREAS, project planners and contractors will submit the project as a green building
prototype to the U. S. Green Building Council (USGBCj. targeting a
designation reserved for large-scale sustainable projects: and.
WHEREAS, each of the new and renovated buildings in the campus construction project
will be built to rigorous Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
(LEED) standards and submitted individually for LEED certification as part
of the process: and,
WHEREAS, all contractors working on the project have achieved or are pursuing
personal LEED accreditation: and.
WHEREAS, the project will expand and enhance the work of the Conservancy, a
grassraots organization focused on the critical environmental issues of the
Southwllst Florida region, such as managing growth: protecting area waters,
land. and wildlife: promoting sound environmental policills and practices
based on solid scientific research: providing environmental education to
residents and visitors: and treating more than 2,400 injured. sick, and
orphaned animals each year.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Soard of County Commissioners of Collier
County, Florida, that April 22, 2009, be designated as
Conservancy of Southwest Florida Green Campus Day
