PROCLAMA TION
WHEREAS, fighting fires is one of the most hazardous professions, requiring
physical strength, stamina, extensive troining, courage, and
selfless concern for the welfare of our citizens: and,
WHEREAS, in addition to their daily service to communities, firefighters
throughout the state and across the nation have joined the
Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) for the past 54 years in the
fight against neuromuscular diseases: and,
WHEREAS, the Muscular Dystrophy Association is extremely grateful to the
Collier County Firefighters whose Fill-the-Boot campaign will assist
MDA in providing services such as local clinics, summer camp,
research grants, support groups, and public education seminars at
no cost to local chl1dren and families: and,
WHEREAS, in honor of the efforts of the firefighters of Collier County, MDA
is sponsoring Collier County Firefighter Appreciation Week for the
week of May r, 2009: and,
WHEREAS, it is appropriate for all Collier County citizens to join the MDA in
this tribute to our firefighters: and,
WHEREAS, on behalf of Collier County and the Muscular Dystrophy
Association, we commend the firefighters of Collier County for
their efforts.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of
Collier County, Florida, that May r through May ~ 2009, be
designated as
COLUER COUNTY FIREFIGHTER APPRECIATION WEEK
