PROCLAMA TION
WHEREAS, May, 2009 has been designated as Older Americans Month and is celebrated
nationally: the theme is ''Living Today for a Better Tomorrow':' and,
WHEREAS, this theme reflects the Administration on Aging's continued focus on
prevention programs that help older adults have better health as they age
and avoid the risks of chronic disease and disability,' and,
WHEREAS, Older Americans are valuable members of our society who are rich with
experience and deserving of our respect,; and,
WHEREAS, Collier County Housing and Human Services has served as the Lead Agency for
more than 30 years and provides in-home services for 200+ frail and elderly
to assist them in remaining in their own home as long as feasibly possible,-
and,
WHEREAS, Collier County Housing and Human Services feeds J 55 homebound elderly with
home delivered meals and J 25 more active stlniors in the Nutrition Services
program in Immokaltle, East Napltls and thtl INIwest site of Golden Gate
Community Centtlr,' and,
WHEREAS, these numbtJrs reflect a 50% increase in clients urved through the dedication
and hard work of Heidi Fahnestock, Nutrition Program Leader, and other
staff,' and,
WHEREAS, Collier County Housing and Human Services partners with health care
agencies, civic groups, community associations, and other county departments
to identify INItlds and utilize resources for our older residents.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissiontlrs of Collier
County, Florida, that May, 2009 be designated as
OLDER AMERICAN'$. MONTH
