Backup Documents 06/09/2009 Item # 4B 48 PROCl.AMA TION WHEREAS, the Non-Residential Recycling Ordinance No. 2004-50 adopted by the Board of County Commissioners on July 27, 2004, established the Waste Reduction Awards Program (WRAP); and, WHEREAS, the WRAP award recognizes businesses and institutions for enhanced and innovative recycling programs: and, WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners is pleased to recognize The Club and Spa at Fiddlers Creek for contributing to the greater good of Collier County by promoting "green" business practices, thereby helping to prolong the usable life of the Collier County l.andfill; and, WHEREAS, The Club and Spa at Fiddlers Creek demonstrates a good example for other businesses in the area; and, WHEREAS, some aspects of their recycling program & green initiatives include: . Providing each staff member with a box container for the easy collection of recyclable office paper. Minimize waste by recycling shredded paper, newspaper, newsprints, cardboard, aluminum cans, batteries and printer cartridges. . Purchasing preference for recycled, re-manufacfured, environmentally sensitive products and services. . Reducing the number of paper-based communications by SIInding out weekly announcements through email blut, sending out a monthly Newsletter, and updtzting announcements on their in-house TV chafIMl. . Using silverware, glass and ceramic mugs for daily coffee and meals. Discourage use of Styrofoam, disposable plastic ware and minimize use of single-serve/pre-packaged condiments. . Adding recycle bins in all areas: both front of the building for members and back of the building for employees. . Initiating an extensive employee Environmental Policy to be signed by all employees requiring commitment to following its guidelines pertaining to the recycling and waste reduction green program. WHEREAS, the WRAP award program includu a framed certificate, a trophy, use of the WRAP logo and space on the www.colliergov.net/re~Yclu website showcasing their waste reduction and recycling program. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that the Board of County Commissioners and the Solid Waste Management Department congratulate Ron Albeit, General Manager, Phil Brougham, Chairman of Fiddlers Creek CDDJ, and all the staff of the Club and Spa at Fiddlers Creek for their outstanding green business practices and continued efforts to promote waste reduction and recycling. Their ''green team" promotes environmental awareness and sets a positive example for others. Their initiatives will have a significant affect in sustaining the usable life of the Collier County l.andfill and protecting the environment. DONE AND ORDERED THIS ~h DAY OF June, 2009.
