PROCL.AMA TION WHEREAS, the unexplainable love and passion for softball has allowed the sport to grow, develop, and maintain universal appeal throughout time and is known as 'Q game for everyone ':. and, WHEREAS, L.ittle L.eague Baseball, a non-profit organization in the United States which organizes local children's baseball and softball leagues throughout the US and the rest of the world, was founded by Carl Stotz in 1939 as a three- team league in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, encouraging local volunteers to run its programs, which are open to children ages 5 to 18; and, WHEREAS, the first Little L.eague Baseball game took place on June 6, 1939 and the following year a second league was formed in Williamsport. From there L.ittle L.eague Baseball grew from three teams in a small Pennsylvania town, to an international organization of nearly 200,000 teams in every U. S. state, and over 80 countries all around the world; and, WHEREAS, in 1974, Little L.eague rules were revised to allow participation by girls; and, WHEREAS, girls softball has helped develop the character, discipline, and more particularly that important essence of "teamwork': preparing individuals to have the tools to exceed in both academics and sports,. and, WHEREAS, the Naples RtJCkets in a closely contested series lost in the final game to the Golden Gate All-Stars,' the spirit of sportsmanship and commitment demonstrated personifies the quality of sports teams in Collier County. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida that we congratulate the finalists in the District 27 Championships, the Naples Rockets and the Golden Gate L.ittle L.eague Girls Softball Team players ages 9 to 10.
