Dear Mr. Potter,
On behalf of the Collier County community and Board of County Commissioners, I am writing
to request that you n:frain from closing any of the United States Postal Service satellite offices
and facilities in Naples, Florida.
Understanding and agreeing that nationally we all have been wading through what you
succinctly and accurately called "one of the most difficult economic climates any of us have ever
experienced," you also claimed to be maintaining record levels of customer service and trust
while trimming your budget by $6 billion in 2009.
However, the Collier County Commission takes exception with your plans to further cut your
spending plan by striking at the heart of where your service touches our residents and
unanimously voiced concern that the closing of three specifically designated postal facilities in
Collier County would prove a loss of a critical public service and customer convenience to a
population of 333,000 in an expansive county of 2,026 square land miles.
We are aware that in August 2009 you announced about] ,000 post offices nationwide were
under review for consolidation/closing and the Collier County facilities on that list include the
downtown Naples office at 860 Sixth A venue South, a Golden Gate location at 4863 Golden
Gate Parkway, and a North Naples site at 851 Vanderbilt Beach Road.
In addition to the indficiency and inconvenience of losing these various locations as options for
customers for postal services, the community will have to wrestle with the traffic congestion and
problems associated with overcrowding at the main branches.
From our vantage point, the United States Postal Service could possibly jeopardize in the eyes of
Collier County citizlms its reputation and title ofaMost Trusted Government Agency," which
you have received for five consecutive years from the Ponemon Institute.

Despite the ailing economy, you claim that the United States Postal Service expects to deliver to
more than 1 million new addresses this year. That is why it is especially important that you
continue to emphasize exemplary customer service and maintain public exposure of your
products, services and facilities,
I am confident that you can identify alternative areas to cut spending to meet your goal of an
additional $6 billion cut in 2009 and a $3 billion reduction in 2010 without closing satellite
offices.
Keeping post offices open in Collier County is a win-win situation for the community and the
United States Postal Service.
