charitable giving by residents and commercial interests in Collier County
has always been generous and this has been demonstrated in the
overwhelming support especially given to individuals who obligate
themselves to performing a task as representative of their commitment;
and,
one such individual, Michael Pagliccia, with dedicated support teams,
has, for a number of years, performed adventurous and extreme tasks
to obtain sponsorship and donations for various charities with the result
of raising over $37, 000; and,
this has involved living in a life raft for 9 days and raising $9,000,
living in an Ovatek survival life raft in Naples Bay for 14 days drinking
only one smoothie a day and raising $15,000, living underwater in a 6 x
6 feet tank on dh Avenue, Naples, being hospitalized with hypothermia
but raising $8,000, and last year attempting a Guinness 800k of World
Records by riding a Sea-l>oo for over 624 miles, raising $5,000; and,
the majority of this money was given to the YMCA of the Palms, Naples
to help fund childlYn needing financial assistance for attending the
summer pt"t!1gr(lms; and,
in recognition of a personal loss this year in losing his mother-in-law,
Freda Slattery, to cancer, this years' fund-raising event will be for the
American Cancer Society; and,
WHEREAS, on Wed1ft!sday, September 30, 2009, Michael Pagliccia wI'll again
challenge his ftJrtitude by making another attempt at the Guiness Book
of World Records for distance travelled on a Sea-l>oo in 24 hours.
NOW THEREFORE, be it procltJ'med by the 8t:Jmvlof C(JUf7ty Commissioners of Collier
County, Florida, that September. 30, 2009 be designated as
MICHAEL PAGLICCIA ENDEAVOR DAY
for the American Cancer Society
