Backup Documents 09/29/2009 Item # 4A PROCLAMA TION I "'4 WHEREAS, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) is the nations oldest recognized grassroots-based civil rights organization,' and, WHEREAS, the mission of the NAACP is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination wherever it exists,' and, WHEREAS, the Collier County Branch of the NAACP is hosting its 27h Annual Freedom Fund Banquet and Awards Ceremony on Saturday, October 3, 2009 while also celebrating the J oct" year of the National NAACP,' and, WHEREAS, the centennial year of the NAACP is a significant historical milestone, a time of reflections and new beginnings,' and, WHEREAS, the theme of the dinner and awards ceremony will be ''NAACP: Bold Dreams, Big Victories': the function being held at the Hilton Naples and Towers on Saturday, October 3, 2009 and will be an evening to celebrate and honor the recipients of this years awards, with the hopeful expectation of generous giving by attendees,' and, WHEREAS, the fundraising and awards dinner is an integral part of this celebration: and, WHEREAS, the proceeds of the event will be used to furtherthc Mdeavors of the Collier County BrtlllCh of the NAACP as it follows the principtll obJ"tives of the NAACP constitution. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that October 3, 2009, be designated as COLLIER COUNTY BRANCH NAACP 27'"H FREEDOM FUND and NATIONAL NAACP CENTENNIAL DAY DONE AND ORDERED THIS 29th Day of September, 2009.
