PROCLAMA TION
WHEREAS, Collier County spons 2,025.34 square land miles, 80% of which is set aside as state
or federal preserve land: making it the second largest county in the State of Florida,
with 75% (236,879 people) of the population residing in urban areas: and,
WHEREAS, the Collier County Solid Waste Management Deportment is dedicated to keeping our
natural habitat pristine by offering twice weekly curbside municipal solid waste
collection, weekly curbside single stream recycling collection: on-demand collection of
electronics, bulky items, white goods, and lead acid battery pickup, fiscal and
environmentally sound landfill and transfer station operations and monitoring:
household hazardous and universal waste recycling center drop-off centers, are-use
store, and provides a conditionally exempt small quantity generator program: and,
WHEREAS, the Solid Waste Management Deportments goal is to implement the Integrated Solid
Waste Management Strategy, consistent with the Enduring Guiding Principles, adopted
by the Collier County Soard of County Commissioners on December 5, 2006: and,
WHEREAS, the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) whose mission statement is
advancing the practice of enviranmllfltoJly and economically sound management of
municipol solid waste in North Americo, yearly recognizes excellence: and,
WHEREAS, on September 22, 2009 the Solid Waste Managemllflt Deportment received the 2009
Special Waste Gold Excellence AWtlrcJ, which represIIf1f$ the highest achievement in
the nation for excellence in solid waste management above and beyond all other
counties in tire I/Otian.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Soard of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that we congratulate tire Collier County Solid Waste Management Department
for the receipt of the
2009 SPECIAL WASTE GOLD EXCELLENCE AWARD
and congratulate staff for this successful effort in achieving the highest level of
excellence in solid waste managemllflt.
