EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to accept an award of $78,352 in grant funds from the State of Florida
Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Medical Services, which requires a local match of
$26,115 for the purchase of eight hydraulic assist stretchers and to approve necessary Budget
Amendments.
OBJECTIVE: To improve the safety of patients and field personnel.
CONSIDERATIONS: On November 13, 2018, the Board of County Commissioners approved the
submittal of a grant application to the State of Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency
Medical Services for hydraulic assist stretchers in the amount of $78,352 in grant funds and a required
local match of $26,115. By letter dated May 3, 2019, we were awarded $78,352 with a required $26,115
match. The total cost to purchase eight hydraulic assist stretchers is $121,212.96.
The purpose of the grant is to improve operational efficiency and increase the safety of patients and field
personnel through the purchase of an additional eight (8) hydraulic assist stretchers. There is no formal
agreement for the acceptance of this grant. The previously signed application affirms compliance with
the terms and conditions of the grant.
FISCAL IMPACT: The total project cost of $121,212.96 is necessary to fund the purchase. A Budget
Amendment within EMS Grant Fund 493, Project 33636 in the amount of $78,352 is necessary to
recognize and appropriate the funds from the State of Florida Department of Health, Bureau of
Emergency Medical Services. A Budget Amendment is also required within EMS Grant Match Fund
494, Project 33636 in the amount of $42,860.96 and is comprised of a required 25% match or $26,115
and an additional local contribution of $16,745.96. Local funds are available from EMS Operating Fund
490 supported by Ad Valorem revenues.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney, is approved as to
form and legality, and requires majority vote for approval. -JAK
GROWTH IMPACT: There is no Growth Management Impact resulting from this action.
RECOMMENDATION: To accept the grant proceeds from the State of Florida Department of Health,
Bureau of Emergency Services, approve the Budget Amendments to recognize and appropriate the funds
from the State of Florida Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Services, and provide the required
match from EMS Fund 490.
