EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to approve and adopt the name "MarGood Harbor Park" for the
proposed park in Goodland.
Objective: To have the Board of Collier County COlmnissioners approve and adopt the name
"MarGood Harbor Park".
Considerations: The Goodland Civic Association consists of a group of residents who live and
own property in Goodland. The group was formed with the Board of Directors and staff
members who bring input from the Goodland community.
At the December 19, 2006 meeting, between Collier County Parks and Recreation and the
Goodland Civic Association, the name "MarGood Harbor Park" was unanimously voted by the
association including support for playground, picnic pavilion, open grass area, pathway,
canoe/kayak launch, and the restoration of MarGood buildings.
The name "MarGood Harbor Park" has a direct and significant relationship with the community
and falls within the parameters set forth in the policy for naming county-owned buildings,
structures or facility. The name "Mar" came from Marco Island and "Good" from Goodland.
This was the original name when the park was a fishing resort called MarGood Resort.

This infonnation was presented to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board (P ARAB) at its
August 19, 2009, meeting. The Board voted in favor of the name "MarGood Harbor Park" for
the new park.
Fiscal Impact: There is no fiscal impact associated with this action.
Le2al Consideration: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney's Office. The
proposal is in compliance with the County's Policy for Naming a County Owned Building,
Structure, or Facility, section 1. This item requires simple majority vote and is legally sufficient
for Board action. - CMG
Growth Mana2ement Impact: MarGood Harbor Park IS inventoried III the Growth
Management Plan.
Recommendation: That the Board of County Conunissioners approve and adopt the name
"MarGood Harbor Park".
