Agenda 07/28/2009 Item # 4CAgenda Item No. 4C July 28, 2009 Page 1 of 2 PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, red -light running is dangerous and a costly national problem and is the leading cause of urban crashes according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety,' and,' WHEREAS, in 2006, crashes that involved red -light running killed almost 900 people and injured an estimated 144, 000,' and WHEREAS, approximately half of the deaths in red -light running crashes are pedestrians and occupants in other vehicles who are hit by the red -light runners,' and, WHEREAS, Collier County is committed to protecting the safety; public health, and welfare of residents and will observe National Stop on Red Week 2009. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that August 2 - 8, 2009, be designated as STOP ON RED WEEK In our community and encourage all residents to promote a safe driving environment by stopping at all red lights.
