EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to award Bid # 09-5217 for the purchase of emergency medications to
Henry Schein Matrix Medical, Kentron Health Care, Inc., Midwest Medical Supply
Company, Bound Tree Medical, LLC and Alliance Medical DBA AHmed for the
Emergency Medical Services Department for an estimated cost for FY 09 of $100,000.
OBJECTIVE: To procure emergency medications from the lowest qualified and responsive
bidders.
CONSIDERATIONS: On March 27, 2009 bids were solicited by the Purchasing Department
to vendors who supply medications. The requests for bid were issued to 99 firms. A total of 5
firms responded by the deadline of April 17, 2009. Staff recommends award to the following
firms:
1. Henry Schein Matrix Medical
2. Bound Tree Medical, LLC
3. Midwest Medical Supply Company
4. Kentron Health Care, Inc.
5. Alliance Medical DBA AHmed
It is recommended that the entire bid offering of each responsive bidder be accepted as
secondary suppliers to be utilized in the event that the lowest responsive bidder is unable to
furnish the medications as needed. In such a situation, the next lowest bidder would be
contacted, and then the next lowest bidder and until such needed medication could be obtained.
FISCAL IMP ACT: Funds for these medications are available for FY 09 in Fund 490 _
Emergency Medical Services.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed and approved by the County
Attorney's Office, is not quasi-judicial and requires no ex parte disclosure, requires only a
majority vote for approval, and is otherwise legally sufficient for Board action.-SRT
GROWTH IMPACT: There is no Growth Management Impact resulting from this action.
RECOMMENDATIONS: That the Board of County Commissioners award Bid #09-5217 to
the five firms listed above.
