EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to approve a budget amendment in the amount of $100,615 to ensure
continuous funding of the Alzheimer's Disease Initiative grant in the Services for Seniors
program from the Area Agency on Aging and authorize eligible expenditures prior to the
execution of the agreement.
OBJECTIVE: To amend the Alzheimer's Disease Initiative (ADI) operating budget at FY08-
09 continuation funding levels to allow for uninterrupted support services to Services for
Seniors' frail, elderly clients.
CONSIDERATIONS: Collier County Services for Seniors has been providing case
management and facility respite services to Collier County's frail elderly for the past 19 years
through the Alzheimer's Disease Initiative. Historically, Collier County Services for Seniors
receives the continuation agreement during the latter part of June, for the upcoming grant cycle
which runs July 1, 2009 through June 30, 2010. This continuation grant in the amount of
$100,615, for the period July 1, 2009 through June 30, 20 I 0 will allow for the delivery of adult
day care and case management services to the County's frail elderly, thus preventing premature
and costly institutional placement. When the agreement is received in late June 2009, a budget
amendment will be prepared to reflect the actual allocation.
The anticipated total grant amount of $100,615 is funded from the State of Florida grants and
aids appropriation. A budget amendment in the amount of $100,615 is required to recognize the
grant revenue and allow for uninterrupted service to clients. Of the total grant award, $200 will
require a budget amendment for case management. The remaining $100,415 will be budgeted to
pay local facility respite service providers.
FISCAL IMPACT: FY09 budget in Services for Seniors fund (123) will increase by $100,615.
This grant requires no local matching funds.

LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed and approved by the County
Attorney's Office, This item is not quasi judicial, and as such ex parte disclosure is not

RECOMMENDATIONS: Staff recommends that the Board of County Commissioners approve
the necessary budget amendment to ensure uninterrupted services to elderly clients and authorize
eligible expenditures prior to the execution of the agreement.
