Agenda 06/11/2019 Item #3D (Employee Award)06/11/2019 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Presentation of the May 2019 Employee of the Month, Phil Gravitt, Instrumentation/Electrical Technician, Public Utilities Department. OBJECTIVE: To recognize the efforts and accomplishments of an employee who has made significant contributions to the organization and to our community. CONSIDERATIONS: Phil has been with Collier County since 2016 and works in the Public Utilities Wastewater Power Systems section. Phil’s level of sustained dedication, day in and day out, continues to go unmatched. He is known for completing complicated tasks utilizing his superior skills and craftsmanship. Phil was assigned preventative maintenance (PM) tasks at the North County Water Reclamation Facility (NCWRF) beyond performing a PM on the cabinet he reworked the system and brought it to “as new” factory condition. His work extended the life of the equipment another ten years and has resulted in trouble-free equipment since the work was done. This type of above-and-beyond dedication not only improves reliability of the equipment and service to the community, but it also saves labor hours and troubleshooting costs. Another great example of Phil’s work at the NCWRF was his repair of the lighting. He took it upon himself to research other methods and improvements and developed a method to quickly retrofit the existing lighting to LEDs. Not only did this improve the safety of personnel at the plant, it saved thousands of dollars in contractor repair costs and reduced lighting power consumption by 40% and resulted in a monthly reduction in FPL costs. The method of repair, and the materials used are now incorporated throughout the Wastewater Division to reduce costs, extend the life of equipment and increase safety for employees working at these facilities. Phil’s quiet demeanor, self-motivation and process improvement skills have earned him the respect of both his team members and management alike. He is an outstanding employee and “exceeds expectations” every day. Phil’s unwavering dedication to making things better continues to elevate the performance of the whole team and improve the level of service to the citizens of Collier County. He is well deserving of Employee of the Month. FISCAL IMPACT: The selected “Employee of the Month” receives a $150.00 cas h award. Funds for this are available in the employee’s budget cost center.
