Agenda 05/26/2009 Item # 4B Agenda Item No. 48 May 26, 2009 Page 1 of 2 PROCLAMA TION WHEREAS, on April 7. 2009 at the Eagle Lakes Community Park, it was discovered that an exotic algae had killed the fish in the lake. The decaying fish generated a strong, offensive odor that permeated the neighborhood and needed to be removed immediately: and. WHEREAS. The Collier County Parks and Recreation Department initiated 0 clean-up and contacted Debbie Vaughn at the Hendry Correctional Institute asking for assistance with the removal of the decaying fish; and. WHEREAS, staff from Hendry Correctional Institution under Warden Vickie Langford immediately responded. and in particular Assistant Warden of Programs Ben Mount, arranged for Major Soay and eight inmates to assist with the cfean- up: and. WHEREAS, Major Saoy and the eight inmates arrived at the Park early morning and worked very hard to see the task completed before noon that day: and. WHEREAS, the residents of Collier County who reside near the Eagle Lakes Community Park and olso members of the public who use the park facility, are truly grateful for the quick response, support and assistance given by Hendry Correctional Institution in removing the decoying fish and thus the odor. NOW THEReFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that the HCNDRY CORRECTIONAL INSTITtlTION be commended for their quick response and efforts to our communlty's needs as we express our gratitude for their assistonce.
