EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to appoint a member to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.
OBJECTIVE: To appoint one member to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board to fill the remainder
of a vacant term expiring on December 31, 2021.
CONSIDERATIONS: This seven-member committee was created by guidelines established on
November 25, 1975 and confirmed by Ordinance No. 93-81 to advise the Board of County
Commissioners on any matters concerning acquisition, development and programs involving parks and
recreation facilities in Collier County. Membership consists of one member from the Immokalee
Community Park District, and six members from the Naples and Urban Area Community Park District.
Terms are 4 years. A list of the current membership is included in the backup.
Murdo Smith passed away in April 2019, leaving a vacancy representing the Naples and Urban Area
Community Park District. The vacancy was advertised and applications were received from the following:

COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: At its meeting on May 15, 2019, the committee voted to
recommend that Ms. Bercher be appointed to fill the remainder of Murdo Smith’s term, which expires on
December 31, 2021. A recommendation memo is included in the backup.
FISCAL IMPACT: None.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners adopts the Committee
Recommendation, and directs the County Attorney to prepare a resolution confirming the appointment.
