EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to approve a waiver in accordance with the guidelines set forth in the Advance
Street Name Guidelines policy and Resolution No. 2012-114 for the placement of advance street
name guide signs along Collier Boulevard at the approaches to Cedar Hammock Boulevard.
OBJECTIVE: To place an advance street name signs along Collier Boulevard at the approaches to
Cedar Hammock Boulevard.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Advance Street Name Guidelines policy was approved by the Board of
County Commissioners (Board) on June 26, 2012, Item 16A16.
Some of the policy guidelines are:
• Use advanced street name signs only to identify critical or significant cross streets;
• Advanced street name signs are not intended to identify destinations such as cities, facilities, or
residential neighborhoods;
• Be consistent with FDOT guidelines for Advance Street Name Signs;
• Meet the requirements established in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD);
• Allow advance street name guide signs for minor road approaches with a minimum of 2,000
vehicles per day; and
• Resolution 2012-114, Item 2d, allows the Board to consider a waiver from the requirements of
the guidelines upon request.
On April 4, 2019, the Cedar Hammock community submitted a written request for a waiver from the
policy requirements. Cedar Hammock is a residential neighborhood with a private, gated access that does
not meet the policy’s requirements. However, it is estimated to meet the minimum number of 2,000
vehicles per day. The community would like the advance street name signs, as indicated in the attached
letter, to minimize the number of drivers who miss the entrance.
Staff has reviewed and supports the community’s request.
FISCAL IMPACT: None. All cost with respect to the signage will be borne by the Cedar Hammock
community.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with this
Executive Summary.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed by the County Attorney, is approved as to
form and legality, and requires majority vote for approval. -JAK
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board approves the waiver authorizing the Cedar Hammock
community to install advance street name signs along Collier Boulevard at Cedar Hammock Boulevard in
accordance with Resolution 2012-114, Item 2d.
