EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation that the Board of County Commissioners approves and
authorizes the Chairman to accept the Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant awarded
to Ochopee Fire Control District in the amount of $11,716 for the purpose of
refurbishing two 6X6 five-ton vehicles.
OBJECTIVE: For the Board of County Commissioner to accept the Volunteer Fire
Assistance Grant Award to Ochopee Fire Control District in the amount of $11,716, for
the purpose of refurbishing two 1994 6X6 five-ton vehicles.
CONSIDERATIONS: On March 10, 2009 the Board of County Commissioners
approved the submittal of a Volunteer Fire Assistance 50/50 Grant Application to the
Division of Forestry. The submitted application was for $10,500 however, the awarded
amount is slightly higher at $11,716. This increase is due to information requested by
the Division of Forestry in regards to what equipment was needed to put the vehicles in
service. The items submitted for purchase with estimated prices were a water tank, fire
pump, fiberglass roofs for the cabs, and foam systems. The initial cost of these items
was $11,716. The Division of Forestry elected to increase the grant award based on
the expense of purchasing this equipment. Brush Fire season has already begun and
proves to be prolific; the need for the vehicles is eminent. It is crucial that these
vehicles are put in service as soon as possible so that they can be used this fire season
or, at minimum, be ready for next year.
FISCAL IMPACT: The total cost of refurbishing the vehicles is $11,716. As this is a
50/50 matching grant, the Division of Forestry will pay $5,858 and the Ochopee Fire
Control District Fund (146) will provide $5,858 from Reserves for Capital Outlay. The
associated budget amendments will recognize this revenue, and transfer the necessary
reserves to the Emergency Management and Fire Grants Fund (118).
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact
associated with this executive summary.
LEGAL CONSIDERATION: This item is not quasi-judicial, ex parte communication is
not required, requires simple majority vote and is legally sufficient for Board action. -
