EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommend Approval from the Board of County Commissioners of the
conceptual plan for replacement of the Vanderbilt Beach restrooms and approval
to move forward with design and permitting.
OBJECTIVE: Obtain conceptual plan approval from the Board of County
Commissioners for the replacement of the Vanderbilt Beach restrooms and move
forward with design and permitting of this facility,
ONSIDERA TIONS: The Board of County Commissioners directed staff to develop a
conceptual plan for the replacement of the Vanderbilt Beach bathrooms, review it with
the surrounding community, obtain public support and bring it back to the Commission
for review and conceptual authorization.
This proposed plan accomplishes the Board of County Commission direction by
replacing the existing Vanderbilt Beach Facilities with:
. Elevated construction to meet FEMA flood guidelines
. Adequate bathroom facilities to meet current and anticipated growth.
. Concession space for current and future needs
. Integration within the existing footprint eliminating any view restriction on
Vanderbilt Beach road and the beach.
ADVISORY COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATIONS: This plan has been reviewed and
approved by the Pelican Bay Foundation on February 27, 2009. A public meeting was
held on February 17, 2009 to review and discuss the conceptual layout and plan,
Significant public support and approval was voiced in this meeting from the Vanderbilt
community to this proposal. This plan has also been approved by the PARAB on
February 18, 2009 by a vote of 6-0.
FISCAL IMPACT: This project is currently budgeted in Beach Park Facilities Fund 183
in the amount of $1,070,800,00. The Source of funds is from Category "A" Tourist
Development Tax Fund 183 - Beach Park Facilities,
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no impact to the Growth Management
Plan related to this action.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed and approved by the
County Attorney's Office. This item is not quasi-judicial, and as such ex parte disclosure
is not required. This item requires majority vote only. This item is legally sufficient for
Board action, - CMG
RECOMMENDATION: Recommend Approval from the Board of County
Commissioners of the conceptual plan for replacement of the Vanderbilt Beach
restrooms and approval to move forward with design and permitting.
