BROCK, CLERK RESOLUTION NO. 2004- .Q~q_ REC FEE COPIES 10.00 1.00 A RESOLUTION BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING A SPEED LIMIT CHANGE FROM FIFTY-FIVE MILES PER HOUR (55 MPH) TO FORTY-FIVE MILES PER HOUR (45 MPH) ON OIL WELL ROAD, FROM CORKSCREW MIDDLE SCHOOL TO 2600 FEET EAST OF EVERGLADES BOULEVARD, A DISTANCE OF APPROXIMATELY THREE MILES. WHEREAS, Chapter 316, Florida Statutes, permits the Board of County Conunissioners (BCe) to alter established speed limits on roads under its jurisdiction; and WHEREAS, Oil Well Road falls under the jurisdiction of the BCC and has a fifty-five miles per hour (55 MPH) speed limit; and WHEREAS, in accordance with Chapter 316, Florida Statutes, the BCC may alter such existing speed limits as may be appropriate upon the basis of an engineering and traffic investigation; and WHEREAS, new schools are opening in August 2004 on Oil Well Road and on Everglades Boulevard, with associated school bus, parent, and student traffic utilizing roadways and intersections in the inunediate area to access the high school and the elementary school; and WHEREAS, the results of the County's engineering and traffic investigation indicate that changing the speed limit to forty-five miles per hour (45 MPH) in the vicinity of the new Palmetto Ridge High School and the Oil Well Road/Everglades Boulevard intersection is reasonable and safer under the conditions found to exist and that it conforms to criteria promulgated by the County and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA THAT: SECTION I: The BCC does hereby establish a forty-five miles per hour (45 MPH) speed limit on Oil Well Road, from the existing forty-five mile per hour (45 MPH) zone in front of Corkscrew Middle School to 2600 feet east of Everglades Boulevard, for a distance of approximately 3.0 miles, and does hereby direct the Collier County Traffic Operations Department to erect appropriate speed limit signs giving notice thereof. SECTION 2: A copy of this Resolution shall be forwarded to the Collier County Sheriffs Office for proper enforcement of the established speed limit for Oil Well Road within the designated segment. SECTION 3: The effective date of the speed limit change shall be after written notification to the Sheriffs Office and upon posting of appropriate signage.
