A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS, COLLIER
COUNTY, FLORIDA, ENDORSING THE 2004 MEMBERSHIP
REAPPORTIONMENT PLAN OF THE COLLIER COUNTY METROPOLITAN
PLANNING ORGANlZA TION,
WHEREAS, the voting membership of the Collier County Metropolitan Planning
Organization, hereinafter "MPO," currently is made up of elected representatives of Collier
County and the incorporated cities of Naples and Marco Island; and
WHEREAS, the MPO is comprised of eight (8) voting members, including one (1) member
from Marco Island City Council, two (2) members from the Naples City Council, and five (5)
members from the Board of Collier County Commissioners; and
WHEREAS, Everglades City is the only local government within the MPO not currently
represented on the MPO Board; and
WHEREAS, Everglades City, by letter dated December 28, 2001, to the MPO, has requested
voting membership in the MPO; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with Florida Statutes Section 339.175 and federal rules and
regulations, the Governor of Florida is required to review the membership composition of the
MPO to ensure that the established MPO structure is consistent with federal and state
requirements and regulations; and
WHEREAS, it appears from the proVISIons of Florida Statutes Section 339.175 that
Everglades City is eligible for such membership; and
WHEREAS, the MPO developed a reapportionment plan that was recommended by its
Technical Advisory Committee and Citizens Advisory Committee; and
WHEREAS, the 2004 MPO Reapportionment Plan recognizes the economic, community
character, and historic importance of Everglades City; and
WHEREAS, the Collier MPO unanimously approved the development of a reapportionment
plan to add Everglades City as a voting member,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Collier County Commissioners:
SECTION 1. That the Board of Collier County Commissioners hereby endorses the
2004 Reapportionment Plan of the Collier County Metropolitan Planning Organization, which
provides for the MPO membership to include one (1) member of the Everglades City Council, one
(1) member of the Marco Island City Council, two (2) members of the Naples City Council, and
five (5) Collier County Commissioners,
SECTION 2.
That this Resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption,
