EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation for the Board of County Commissioners to approve budget amendments
totaling $77,999 to recognize additional funding awarded from the Area Agency on Aging
under the Older Americans Act grant and authorize eligible cxpenditures prior to the execution
of the amendment.
OBJECTIVE: The approval of these budgct amcndments is necessary to rccognize additional grant
funding awarded for the Services for Scniors program expend the funds prior to Decembcr 3],2009.
CONSIDERATIONS: Collicr County Services for Scniors provides in-home SUPPOlt services to Collier
County's frail clderly through gram funding received trom the State of Florida Depaltment of Elder Affairs.
This grant is funded from the Older Americans Act and includes thc Title IIl-B Homemaker Scrvices,
Title C-] Conb'Tegate Mcals, and Title IlI-E Caregivcr Support Program. All of the above mentioned
programs are intended to provide in-home support services and nutrition programming to Collier
County's frail elderly. Thc Serviccs for Seniors program will receive an additional $77,999 in
revenue from the Area Agency on Aging to provide inercased services to scniors in Collier County.
A formal amendment to the agrcement will be forthcoming from the Area Agcncy on Aging in the
near future and will be prescnted to the Board of County Commissioners for approval. Funds will bc
disbursed to the County on a reimbursement basis. Thcrefore, funds must be budgeted in SAP prior
to expending and requesting rcimbursement from thc grantor agcncy. In order to remain in
compliance with our grant agreemcnt, it is impcrative that ail grant funds be expcndcd by December
31, 2009. Inercasing the b'rant budget prior to thc exccution of the amcndment will allow enough
lead time for clients to be assessed, client care plans to be updated, and for service providers to
prepare for an increase in scrvice Icvcls.

LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been revicwed and approved by the County
Attorney's Office. This itcm is not quasi judicial, and as such ex partc disclosure is not rcquircd.
This item requires majority vote only. This item is legally sufficicnt for Board action.-CMG
FISCAL iMPACT: FY 09 budget in fund 123 will incrcase by $77.999. No additional matching
funds are required.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners approves the ncccssary budget
mnendments and authorize eligible expenditures prinr to the execution of the amcndn1cnt.
