PROCLAMA TION
WHEREAS, the community of Immokalee was identified as having a serious and extensive problem
with mobile homes and migrant housing that required focused offentlon to aIleY/ate
the deplorable livin9 conditions that were affecting both the migrant population and
residents of Immokalee: and.,
WHeREAS, the Immokalee Housing Initiative was set up in 2002 under the auspices of Code
Enforcement which worked diligently to address the issues with substandard and
dilapidated housing in Immokalee: and.,
WHEREAS, the Collier County Heolth Deportment joined the Immokolee Housing Initiotive by
bringing focused attention to the deplorable conditions of migrant housing cIormitories:
and,
WHEREAS, the quarterly reports that have succinctly identified the work necessary to bring up
fa standard or eradicate the most egregious of the housing units and demonstrated
the tremendous success enjoyed by the departments: and,
WHEREAS, the third quarter report showed thot only 4% of the total units identified as beyond
repair are yet to be eliminated,: and. by the end of the third quarter 33 illegal
migrant housing investigations were conducted and the appropriate actions taken/ and.
WHEREAS, the work of the Collier County Health Department ond thot of CDES Stoff is ongoing;
and;
WHEReAS. the Immokalee Housing Initiative has enjoyed the success of working with groups
within the community and has provided guidance" support" and partnership.
NOW THEREFORE. be It proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County.
