WHERt:AS, on Earth Doy ZOO9, the Conservancy of Southwest Florida breaks ground on
a campus renovation project designed to be a model for green building,
sustainabi/ity, and CRvironmental responsibility in America: anrt
WHEREAS, we celebrate the start of Q project that Will surely become an important
part of F/orida's environmental history, and of paramount importance to the
movement toward sustainability in the state of Florida: ancl;
WHEReAS, the 21 -acre Conservancy campus will feature a new wHdt/fe rehabilitation
center, nature center, education center, and a filter marsh designed to
enhance Naples Bay water quality.. antt
WHeREAS. project planners and contractars will submit the project as a green building
prototype to the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), targeting a
designation reserved for large-scale sustainable projects," and,
WHeREAS, each of the new and renovated buildings in the campus construction project
will be built to rigorous Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
(LEED) standards and submitted individually for LEE/) certification as part
of the process: and,
WHEREAS, all contractars working on the project hove achieved or ore pursuing
personal LEED accreditation: and.
WHEREAS, the project will expand and enhance the work of the Conservancy, a
grassroots organization focused on the critical environmental Issues of the
Southwest Florido region, such as managing growth: protecting area waters,
land, and wl/dNfe: promoting sound environmental policies and practices
based on so/Id scientific research; providing enYironmental education to
residents and visitors: and treating more than Z,4OO injured, sick, and
orphaned animals each year.
NOW THERCFORE, be It proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier
County, Florida, that AprIl 22, 2009. he designated as
Conservancy of Southwest Florida Green Campus Day
