EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to approve a Budget Amendment to the Freedom Memorial Fund
(620) in the amount of $70,000 in order to begin construction on the Collier County
Freedom Memorial.
OBJECTIVE: To appropriate existing funds for the construction on the Collier County Freedom
Memorial, located at Freedom Park.
CONSIDERATIONS: In 2005 the Collier County Board of Commissioners established that there was
a valid public purpose for the solicitation and receipt of donations to construct a Freedom Memorial
(Resolution 2005-259). In order to provide for the design and construction of the Memorial, the
Freedom Memorial Fund (620) was established. Funding for the construction of the Freedom
Memorial is provided by grants and contributions, and to-date these private contributions have been
held in a Reserve for Future Construction within the Freedom Memorial Fund.
Contributions to the Fund have reached a level such that construction on the memorial may begin,
and this budget amendment seeks to appropriate these existing funds.
FISCAL IMPACT: A budget amendment of $70,000 is recommended, in order to appropriate funds
held in reserve to an operating account where they may be expended. This budget amendment will
result in no net change to the fund balance.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact associated with this
item.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board approves a budget amendment to the Freedom Memorial
Fund (620) in the amount of $70,000.
