EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to award RFP #08-5131 "Security Services" to
Wackenhut Corporation for government security services at an estimated
annual cost of $995,237.
OBJECTIVE: To obtain approval from the Board of County Commissioners to award
RFP # 08-5131 "Security Services" to Wackenhut Corporation for annual security
services at an approximate annual cost of $995,237.
CONSIDERATION: The Department of Facilities Management's Government Security
Section is responsible for providing security services to the County Courthouses, select
government buildings and assorted public functions.
On October 1, 2008, a formal request for proposals was posted in the lobby of the
Purchasing Building and distributed to 87 firms that provide these services. On October
31, 2008, proposals from three (3) firms were received and reviewed. A Selection
Committee meeting was held and by consensus of all members, Wackenhut Corporation
was considered the best qualified to provide these services to the County. Wackenhut
has served as the County's security service provider under contract for the past four
years.
The term of the contract is for 1 year with two, 2 year renewals. Security services may
be added or deleted as needed by the County.
FISCAL IMPACT: The cost of the contract for the remaining fiscal year is approximately
$702,000. The total annual amount of the contract is estimated to be approximately
$995,237. Funds are budgeted in the Facilities Management cost centers as well as in
other department cost centers.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no growth management impact
associated with this Executive Summary.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item has been reviewed and approved by the County
Attorney's Office, is not quasi-judicial and requires no ex parte disclosure, requires only
a majority vote for approval, and is otherwise legally sufficient for Board action-SRT
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of Collier County Commissioners awards RFP #
08-5131 "Security Services" to Wackenhut Corporation and authorizes the chairman to
sign the agreement after review and approval by the County Attorney's Office.
