WHEREAS, Dr. Seymour Tiff et joined the military reserve while still a medical
student at the University of Michigan. His class was the first class that
was escalated to fulfill the Army's need for doctors; and
WHEREAS, at graduation, Dr. Taffet was assigned to a special frontline military
attack unit that consisted of 500 highly- trained speciality', one battalion
surgeon, and 14 medics; and,
WHEREAS, this unit was under direct command of Genera/ Eisenhower during the entire
war, and Dr. Taffet was one of only six bait /e -front doctors in the
American Army, This special unit was the point of attack for every
important European battle of WWII including the Normandy Landing, a//
the way to the Czech bolder by way of France, Be /glum, Holland, and
Germany,• and
WHEREAS, Or Taffet captured German General rodl, Second -in- Command of the
Western Front, and liberated a satellite of Dachau. He won the Silver
Star for bravery in action and is the only physician in the European
campaign to receive this honor; and,
- - WHEREAS, Dr. Taffet is being considered for the French Legion of Honor of this
time; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Toffet was the first Docent of Me Holocaust Museum and has made
presentations to over 3,000 school chi /dren as well as civic and religious
organizations,• and,
WHEREAS, he is a retired Family Physician who practiced medicine for over forty
years in New .rersey,, and,
WHEREAS, we would like to wish him a belated Happy Birthday, as he celebrated his
90* birthday on December 1st.

NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier
County, Florida, that .7anuary 13, 2009, be designated as
Seymour Taffet, M.O. Day
