P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, economic development to achieve economic diversity has been a strategic
goal of the Collier County Board of County Commissioners since at least
1996; and,
WHEREAS, Collier County’s approach to economic diversification seeks to leverage
public-private partnerships with specialized missions for new business
attraction, retention of valued existing businesses and acceleration of
new local business startups and direct foreign investment; and,
WHEREAS, Collier County continues to maintain successful public-private
partnerships with the Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce, Southwest
Florida Economic Development Alliance, and Economic Incubators; and,
WHEREAS, Collier County’s economic development programs continued to promote
diversification and economic growth, resulting in our strong economy
ranked 18th in the nation this year on The Milken Institute's index of
"Best-Performing Cities," and our taxable sales experiencing a 5 percent
year-over-year growth to $772 million in 2018; and,
WHEREAS, economic, workforce and community programs attract and retain high-
quality talent to Florida and collaborate with regional workforce boards
and higher education providers to develop the skills of Florida’s career
seekers, thereby enhancing our competitiveness and improving the quality
of life for all citizens; and,
WHEREAS, economic, workforce and community developers are engaged in a wide
variety of settings including rural and urban, local, state, and federal
governments, public-private partnerships, chambers of commerce, higher
education, and a variety of other institutions; and,
WHEREAS, Economic Development Week is an event created by the Florida Economic
Development Council to celebrate the achievements of economic,
workforce and community development practitioners throughout Florida
communities.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Board of County Commissioners of
Collier County, Florida that February 11-15, 2019, be designated as
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT WEEK IN COLLIER COUNTY
