RESOLUTION NO. 2005-41
A RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF COLLIER COUNTY TO SUPPORT lEE
COUNTY, CHARLOTTE COUNTY AND THE STATE OF
FLORIDA IN THEIR EFFORTS TO PURCHASE THE ENTIRE
91,362 ACRE BABCOCK RANCH PROPERTY.
WHEREAS, Lee County is requesting that all counties within the Southwest
Florida Regional Planning Council show their support for the efforts of the State
of Florida, Lee County and Charlotte County with the acquisition of the entire
Babcock Ranch property; and
WHEREAS, the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County strongly
believes that the purchase of the Babcock Ranch property, in its entirety, by the
State of Florida and Lee and Charlotte Counties would be of tremendous value to
both counties and the citizens of Southwest Florida generally, through the
preservation of green space, reduction in potential urban sprawl and traffic
congestion, reduction of significant demands on water and other natural
resources, and the reduction of potential future environmental pollution.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS OF COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA, that the Board hereby
encourages the State of Florida, Lee County and Charlotte County to negotiate
the purchase of the entire 91,362 acre Babcock Ranch property in order to
ensure that such property is maintained in a substantially undeveloped condition,
thereby significantly limiting the future demands of population growth and traffic
congestion, and protecting groundwater and other environmental resources. At
the same time, such purchase would assure the preservation and maintenance of
essential habitat and green space vital to the quality of life in Southwest Florida.
Passed and duly adopted by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier
County on this the 11th day of January, 2005.
