Slone Assistant to the County Manager Dat.e County Managers Office County Managers Office 11/3/20098:28 AM ,- Agenda Item No. 4A December 15, 2009 Page 2 of 2 P 1i.0 C L!1.J1A]I QN WHEREAS. the Collier County Public Utilities Division - including the Water and Wastewater Departments -. has developed one of the most extensive reclaimed water systems in the State of Florida: and, WHEREAS, the population of Collier County has increased approximately 65 percent over the past ten years, resulting in tremendous stress an both water and wastewater infrastl'fJcftJre/ and, WHEREAS, much of the shallow surface water supplies are no longer available due to concerns OVI!r' salt water intrusion and degradation of environmentally sensitive areas; and, WJ..IEREAS, as a result, Collier County Public Utilities Division has constructed 28 mJ1/ion gallons a day of brackish water supply and treatment facilities and has, since 2001 constructed the South Reverse Osmosis Wellfield including 42 wells, and a 20 mil/ion gal/en a day reverse osmosis treatment facIlity, including two concentrate disp~sa/ deep injection wells, achieving the ultimate goal of having a mixture of fresh water, brackish water, and reclaimed water to meet water demands: and, WHEREAS, on September 24, 2009, the WateReuse Association presented the Collier County South County Regional Desalination Plant (the South County Regional Water Treatment Plant) a WateReuse Award of Merit. NOW THeREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Soard of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that we congratulate the Collier County Public Utilities Division's Water Department for the receipt of the WateReuse Award of Merit and congratulate staff for this successful effort in achieving this high level of excellence in water supply management.
