Subject:January 2015 through April 2015 Hot Rod Product Replacement
Dear Jesse:
On behalf of Ferguson Waterworks ("Ferguson"), I want to thank you and the entire Collier County
("Collier") team for your continued support of and patience with the Hot Rod system you purchased
from us as we awaited the analysis from our partner, Mueller Systems, LLC("Mueller").
Mueller has determined that a population of Hot Rod radio endpoints that was manufactured between
January 2015 and April 2015 have experienced abnormal failures. The analysis has confirmed that these
units have a susceptibility to water intrusion when subjected to wet, harsh environments. The water
intrusion subsequently causes the product's internal electronics to prematurely drain the battery.
Mueller tracks these Hot Rod endpoints using an internal serial number that allows them to identify the
specific meter and register which the endpoints were eventually attached to. The majority of these
meters were shipped to Collier in 2015 with a smaller amount in 2016 and 2017. A complete list of the
affected units is attached to this letter.
Through July 31, 2018, Mueller has replaced more than 2,000 of the affected units in your system. For
the approximately 15,000 affected units that remain in your system, Mueller will manage the removal
and replacement of the affected units. To accomplish this task, Mueller requests the following support
from Collier:
• Provide addresses for all installed units, including the affected units listed in Attachment A
With the above support from Collier, Mueller will validate the locations of the remaining installed units
and follow up with you in greater detail on plans to change the affected units.
In accomplishing this work, Ferguson and its partner, Mueller Systems, LLC, will insure that it has
insurance in place that meets the requirements of the Collier County Risk Management Division,
including adding the Collier County Board of County Commissioners and the Collier County Water Sewer
District as additional insureds on its Certificate of Insurance, Any workers tasked with removing and
replacing the affected units shall comply with the County's background check requirements.
We apologize for any inconvenience you have experienced in your operations and sincerely hope that
this offer will address your needs and concerns. If this offer is acceptable, please sign and return this
correspondence so that we can begin work on the action plan described herein.
