PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, Bob Votruba has challenged many school children and adults in Collier County to reach
One Million Acts of Kindness in their lifetimes through his nationwide bus and bicycle
tour;and,
WHEREAS, Bob Votruba has bicycled thousands of miles while travelling the perimeter of the
United States to visit Collier County five times with his dog Bogart, in his seven-
year bicycle tour so far; and,
WHEREAS, suicide prevention and awareness are Bob Votruba's priorities; to ultimately reduce
death by suicide in our nation's young people; and,
WHEREAS, Bob Votruba also recognizes that many United States military veterans, who gave
years of dedicated services to our country, face multiple mental health issues
resulting from their service, and he wants to raise awareness of those veterans to
prevent suicide; and,
WHEREAS, Bob Votruba has a message for everyone that he meets on his journey; that bullying
can take many forms including physical, verbal, social and emotional bullying, or
cyber-bullying via email, social media or texts; and,
WHEREAS, adults can be proactive in modeling kind behaviors and in teaching children and young
adults the importance of kindness, empathy and compassion for others regardless of
appearance, age, weight, height, disability, color, sexual orientation, gender, gender
identity, national origin, ethnicity or religion; and,
WHEREAS, generations of Collier County residents must work together to create a peaceful,
kind, and harmonious community by modeling kind behaviors and spreading the
message of kindness every day.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that January 12 through 20, 2019, be designated as
KINDNESS AWARENESS WEEK IN COLLIER COUNTY
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 11th Day of December 2018.
