EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to reappoint three members to the Ochopee Fire Control District Advisory
Committee.
OBJECTIVE: To reappoint three members to the Ochopee Fire Control District Advisory Committee, to
two-year terms expiring on December 31, 2020.
CONSIDERATIONS: This five-member committee was created by Ordinance No. 89-98 to advise the
Board of County Commissioners on the operations and budget of the Ochopee Fire Control District.
Members must reside within the boundaries of the Ochopee Area Fire Control Special Taxing District and
include 1 member from Everglades City (appointed by the Mayor), 1 member from Plantation Island, 1
member from Chokoloskee, 1 member from Lee Cypress (Copeland) and 1 member from Ochopee.
Terms are 2 years. A list of the current membership is included in the backup.
Three seats on this committee will expire on December 31, 2018, including the seat representing
Everglades City. The vacancies were advertised, and applications were received from the following:

ATTENDANCE: During the past two years, Mr. Davis has had perfect attendance, and Mr. Craig has
missed only one meeting. Mr. Smith has attended all meetings since his original appointment in March
2018. Attendance records are attached in the backup to this item.
COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION: That Mr. Craig, Mr. Davis, and Mr. Smith each be
reappointed to their respective seats on this committee, to two-year terms expiring on December 31, 2020.
A recommendation memo and a letter from the Mayor of Everglades City are included in the backup.
FISCAL IMPACT: None.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: None.
RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of County Commissioners adopts the Committee
Recommendation and directs the County Attorney to prepare a resolution confirming the reappointments.
