P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, Peter Parley Wynn and his wife, Vida, moved to Naples from Lakeland
and purchased the Bay View Inn and opened a restaurant and grocery
store in half of the hotel building in 1938; and,
WHEREAS, Don Wynn opened Wynn’s Sunshine Super Market at the corner of
Seventh Street and Fifth Avenue South in 1948; and,
WHEREAS, Don Wynn built a second, larger market 50 feet east of the original
market on Fifth Avenue South in 1953; and,
WHEREAS, Don Wynn converted the original store into Sunshine Hardware, a full
line hardware store, in 1958; and,
WHEREAS, the Wynn family relocated the stores to a larger location between
First Avenue North and Second Avenue North, in 1964, where they
remain today; and,
WHEREAS, the Wynn family has a long history in Southwest Florida; and,
WHEREAS, Wynn’s Market and Sunshine Ace Hardware continue to be a valued
resource for Southwest Florida homeowners, professionals, and
businesses; and,
WHEREAS, Wynn’s Market and Sunshine Ace Hardware are champions of a variety
of Southwest Florida organizations and causes, including the Muscular
Dystrophy Association, Make-A-Wish Southern Florida, Youth
Leadership Collier and other local nonprofits; and,
WHEREAS, the Wynn family continues to operate Wynn’s Market and Sunshine Ace
Hardware as a family-owned business.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Board of County Commissioners of
Collier County, Florida, values the Wynn Family and the contributions it
has made to Collier County, and congratulates Wynn’s Market on its
80th anniversary and Sunshine Ace Hardware on its 60th anniversary.
