Agenda 12/11/2018 Item # 3D112/11/2018 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Recommendation to recognize Christine Boni, Accountant, Administrative Services Department as the November 2018 Employee of the Month. OBJECTIVE: To recognize the efforts and accomplishments of an employee who has made significant contributions to the organization or to our community. CONSIDERATIONS: Christine has been with Collier County for 20 years and works in the Emergency Management Division. On a day to day basis, Christine’s work can sometimes be overlooked because all her expertise happens at her computer, through grant management, finances and budgeting. However, during the Hurricane Irma event, Christine stepped up by offering to assist the Special Needs program. The hurricane caused great fear and increased awareness for the medically dependent, frail, and elderly population of Collier County. Prior to Irma, there were about 1,800 applications on file for the special needs program, and that swelled to over 2,600 before and during the event. Christine received the five-page applications which needed to be vetted, logged and processed. Each of those applications was for someone in need and Christine’s assistance allowed the Special Needs Team in Emergency Services to reach out to every qualified applicant. As we all know, the event may have ended, but the work continues; the Special Needs database continues to be an evolving and growing program for Emergency Management. Due to increased storm activity this year and on-going emergency education, the Collier County community is continuing to register for this proactive program. During their yearly mailing, Christine has received hundreds of registrations and has researched the status of each of the community members registered, as she continues to monitor the applicant list; following up on applications and post card mailings to assure that we are current in meeting the needs of our citizens should another event arise, and also so Emergency Services is prepared to offer assistance at a moment’s notice. Without Christine’s help before, during, and even now, long after the hurricane, we would not be able to assist as many citizens as effectively and seamlessly as we do now. FISCAL IMPACT: The selected “Employee of the Month” receives a $150 cash award. Funds for this are available in the employee's budget cost center. GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There are no Growth Management Impacts associated with this Executive Summary. RECOMMENDATION: To approve the recognition of Christine Boni as the November 2018 Employee of the Month.
