EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to extend Contract #14-6253 “Communication Services” with Aztek
Communications of South Florida, Inc. for six months or until a new contract is awarded.
OBJECTIVE: To ensure on-going network connectivity services to the County until a new award is
approved by the Board.
CONSIDERATIONS: The Communication Services agreement is primarily used for IT network cable
runs and repairs to connect PCs, phones, etc., to the County’s network. The Board originally approved
the Communication Services agreement on November 18, 2014 (Agenda Item #16E5) for an initial one-
year term with three additional one-year renewals. All three renewals have been exhausted and the
contract expires on November 17, 2018.
On September 19, 2018, the Procurement Services Division released Invitation to Bid (ITB) #18-7468
“Data Telecommunications and Wiring.” The County received only two bids by the October 18, 2018
deadline and is in the process of evaluating the bids. Staff is requesting approval to extend contract #14-
6253 “Communication Services” for an additional six months through May 16, 2019 or until a new
contract is in place, whichever is sooner, to allow sufficient time to recommend a new award and avoid
any interruption in services. The vendor agrees to allow for this extension to continue services.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item is approved as to form and legality and requires majority vote
for Board approval. -SRT
FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact if the contract is extended. Current pricing will remain
intact. Funds for these services are available in the user divisions’ budgets.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: There is no Growth Management Impact associated with this
action.
RECOMMENDATION: To approve an extension to ITB #14-6253 Communication Services for six
months, through May 17, 2019, or until a new award is made, whichever is sooner.
