Keep Collier Beautiful's Bay Days Litter and Marine Clean Up is one of 1,200 local
affiliates of Keep America Beautiful's Great American Clean Up, a nationwide campaign to
clean up public lands and waterways; and,
in 2009, The Great American Clean Up involved 3 million volunteers in 32,000
communities, collecting 64 ml1lion pounds of litter and debris; and,
in 2009, through community events such as Bay Days Litter and Marine Clean Up, more
than 100,000 miles of roadways, 95,000 acres of parks, 10,200 acres of wetlands,
B, BOO miles of shoreline, 7, BOO miles of nature trails, and 4,750 illegal dump sites were
cleaned; and,
locally, the Bay Days Litter and Marine Clean Up event is celebrating its 2dh year of
cleaning up Collier County's waterways; and,
on April1dh, 2010, the Bay Days Litter and Marine Clean Up will host coordinated
efforts at Delnor Wiggins State Park, Vanderbilt Beach, Lowdermilk Park, Bayview Park,
Naples Pier, 10,000 Islands Panther Preserve, Isle of Capris, TigerTail Beach, Everglades
National Park, Goodland, Rookery Bay NERR, Immokalee Front Porch, Gordon River, and
the Naples Bay; and,
The Bay Days Litter and Marine Clean Up event is expected to remove over 12 tons of
garbage ranging from cigarette butts to car doors from Collier County's public lands; and,
the key to protecting Collier County's precious resources is actively engaging our local
citizens in protecting our environment; and,
The 2010 Bay Days Litter and Marine Clean Up is the recipient of a $5,000 grant from
the 2010 Waste Management Great American Clean Up Showcase Awards program in
partnership with Keep America Beautiful to continue the mission of education and
environmental awareness; and,
This event is a public / private partnership supparted by the Collier County Solid Waste
Department, The City of Naples Solid Waste Department, Florida Department of
Transportation, Waste Management of Collier County, Sunshine Recycling, Ashbritt
Recycling, 1 -BOO-Got-Junk, Seisky, Pilon and Wood Attorneys as wells as the thousands
of Collier County citizens who volunteer their time to pick up trash.
NOW THEREFORE- be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier
County, Florida, that April 10th be designated as
BAY DA YS / GREA T AMERICAN CLEAN UP DA Y
