PROCL.AMA TION
WHEREAS, Sunshine Week is a national initiative to open a dialogue about
the importance of open government and freedom of information,'
and,
WHEREAS, Sunshine Week grew out of Floridas "SUnshine Sunday" in 2002
in response to efforts by some Florida legislators to create
scores of new exemptions to the states public records law/ and.
WHEREAS, Sunshine Week supports Governor Charlie Crists Commission on
Open Government Reform created through an Executive Order on
June 19, 2007.' and.
WHEREAS, Sunshine Week is increasing public awareness, and the efforts of
participants are being cited as real forces for moving the public
away from simply accepting excessive and unwarranted
government secrecy,' and.
WHEREAS, Sunshine Week is about the publics right to know what its
government is doing and why, and seeks to enlighten and empower
people to play an active role in their government at all levels, and
give them access to information that makes their lives better and
their communities stronger.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of
Collier County, Florida, that March 14, 2010 through March 20,
2010 be designated as
SUNSHINE WEEK IN COLUER COUNTY
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 9th Day of March, 2010.
