PROCLAMA TION
WHEREAS, the Boy Scouts of America is a true American Institution chartered by
the United States Congress instilling timeless values in youth since its
founding in 1910: and,
WHEREAS, this national youth movement has made serving others through its
values-based program its mission: and,
WHEREAS, the Boy Scouts of America has helped ml1/ions of youth succeed in life
by living the Boy Scout Oath and Law: and,
WHEREAS, the Boy Scouts of America is committed to offering the opportunity of
Scouting and its outdoor adventure to all youth regardless of race,
creed, nationality, or economic status: and,
WHEREAS, the Boy Scouts of America, Southwest Florida Council and its Cub
Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops, Venturing Crews, Explorer Posts, and
Learning for Life programs are celebrating Scouting's looth anniversary
in America with the theme
''SSA 2010 Celebrating the Adventure'" Continuing the Journey':' and,
WHEREAS, there are more than 170 community organizations and 3,775 dedicated
volunteers that make Scouting available for more than 30,000 youth
members in Southwest Florida who participate in the Scouting program
as a means of character building, citizenship training, and personal
fitness,' and,
WHEREAS, the Boy Scouts of America is the largest organization in Collier County
providing youth leadership training with over 2,400 youth and over 600
adult volunteers participating,' and,
WHEREAS, citizens of Collier County expre~s their appreciation to every man and
woman, youth and adult whose participation in the Boy Scouts of
America has created the greatest youth leadership program in the
world.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier
County, Florida, that the year 2010 be designated as
lodh YEAR OF SCOUTING IN AMERICA
AND FEBRUARY 2010 AS SCOUTING'S ANNIVERSARY MONTH
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 9th Day of February, 2010.
