Backup Documents 05/11/2010 Item # 4B48 I PROCLAMA TION WHEREAS, clean, safe and sustainable water resources and supplies are vital to Collier County's economy, environment, and its people; and, WHEREAS, Florida's water supplies are finite, while our population and our need for water resources continues to increase; and, WHEREAS, water reuse provides a means for conserving and augmenting Florida's precious water resources; and, WHEREAS, Florida has established the encouragement and promotion of water reuse as state objectives in Chapters 373 and 403, Florida Statutes, and, WHEREAS, Florida's permitted reuse capacity exceeds 1.4 billion gallons per day (over 58 percent of Florida's total permitted capacity for all domestic wastewater treatment facilities); and, WHEREAS, the State of Florida has declared the week of May 10 - 16, 2010 to be Water Reuse Week in Florida; and, WHEREAS, Collier County Public Utilities has joined with the State of Florida, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, and the South Florida Water Management District in encouraging and promoting water reuse and conservation, and, WHEREAS, Collier Countys Public Utilities' water reuse program is a leader in the state by treating and returning over five billion gallons of reclaimed water annually to the community for beneficial reuse as irrigation quality water, thereby saving five billion gallons of drinking water from being used for irrigation; and, WHEREAS, Collier County Public Utilities and the South Florida Water Management District is calling upon each citizen and business to help protect our precious resource by practicing water conservation and to use reclaimed water in an efficient and effective means. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that the week of May 10 through 16, 2010 be designated as WATER REUSE WEEK DONE AND ORDERED THIS 11 th Day of May, 2010 BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDAā€˛ FRED COYLE, CHAIRMAN
