A .,. . ~, PROCLAMA TION WHEREAS, the future population and consumptive markets in southern Florida, the changing trade patterns, advancements in manufacturing. the desire to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and dependency on foreign oil all make the opportunity of a South Florida Intermodal Logistics Center (SFILC) an attractive economic development to the south Florida region, which is defined as South West Florida, South Central Florida and South East Florida; and. WHEREAS, the Legislature in adopting 2009 LEGISLA TVRE APPROPRIA TrONS BILL SB 2600, ITEM 2005 specified that "from funds in Specific Appropriation 2005, $1,000,000 shall be provided for the costs associated with the implementation of a SFILC that will serve South West. South Central and South East Florida; and. WHEREAS, the Florida Chamber Foundation, in conjunction with the Florida Department of Transportation, is undertaking a Freight and Trade study that will identify critical information for locating the intermodal logistics facilities and outline the opportunities and benefits to the entire State of Florida of a comprehensive supply chain infrastructure master plan, of which the SFILC will be an integral part; and. WHEREAS, the economic benefits for the entire south Flarida Region can be determined as part of a State plan as the project is conceived and located to maximize the projects success and creating benefits for all of South West Florida; and. WHEREAS. the implementation of the SFILC will be compatible with the environmental principles of the State and Region, and development must occur in conjunction with accepted growth management and entitlement principles and be particularly sensitive to the Everglades Agricultural Area (EAA); and. WHEREAS, the implementation of the SFILC will provide economic diversification and job creation benefits for the entire South Florida Region; implementation should be conducted in a way that maximizes the proximity to the labor pool in the Region. promoting economic diversification and smart growth for the Region over the next decades. NOW. THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board af County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that the SFILC should be conceived and implemented to address the prevailing and future economic, employment. environmental and financial considerations to maximize the benefits for the Region.
