Backup Documents 11/09/2010 Item # 4F4F PROCLAMA TION WHEREAS, November 21 ' through 27"' is National form -City Week, a time set aside to recognize and honor the contributions of the country's agriculturalists and to strengthen the bond between urban and rural citizens; and WHEREAS, in Collier County, the high point of Farm -City Week is the annual Farm -City Barbeque, presented by the Greater Nap /es Chamber of Commerce and local business and agricultural leaders; and WHEREAS, agriculture is an important element in Collier County's economic machine, with total economic activity of over $300 million annually, and, WHEREAS, twenty -two percent of Collier County is utilized for agriculture, providing vital ecological benefits, including habitat for wildlife, and recharge area for our aquifer. • and, WHEREAS, the Board of Collier County Commissioners supports local agriculture through programs including cooperation with the University of Florida/ Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) Extension Service; and, WHEREAS, 2010 marks the 5e year of the National Farm -City Partnership; and WHEREAS, we encourage al/ citizens to pause to recognize the contributions of our local farmers and ranchers to our economy, our food supply, and our society. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that on behalf of the citizens of Collier County, great appreciation and honor is owed to all of this county's agriculturalists, and that November ZJ' through 27' be designated as FARM -CITY WEEK DONE AND ORDERED THIS 9" Day of November, 2010.
