WHEREAS, babies are one of the most precious gifts bestowed to human kind, and
WHEREAS, as you look into the face of every child, you see the miraculous gift of life;
so precious and so powerful; and
WHEREAS, Baby Basics of Collier County is a non - profit, 100 percent volunteer
organization that provides and distributes diapers to babies of the
working /near poor in Collier and Lee Counties, with the belief that early
intervention with infants is one of the best ways of preventing a later failure
to thrive, providing babies with hygienic and when needed, nutritional
essentials, with hopes of maximizing their potential development, and
WHEREAS, Baby Basics of Collier County seeks to provide an atmosphere of kindness and
create a sense of community for families who are working hard yet straddling
the edge of poverty. Diaper distributions are supplemented with an
educational component specific to the needs of our participants, as diapers
are a costly, basic hygienic necessity. By providing clean diapers, they hope
to prevent diaper rash, reduce some of the financial stresses for parents and
lessen the risk of child abuse; and
WHEREAS, Baby Basics of Collier County ensures that hygienic essentia /s, such as
diapers, are available to our families from birth to age three. They also
provide their families who are struggling to make ends meet but have incomes
too high to qualify for federal and state cash assistance, with a supportive
safety net from welfare and the opportunity to succeed, provided in a caring
environment with a listening ear, and as needed, referrals for help with the
opportunity to connect with other programs and services in Southwest Florida,
and,
WHEREAS, research shows that one of the four major factors of child abuse is a sense
of isolation. Baby Basics of Collier County strives to provide a connection to
a caring community with support, a listening ear, a safe place to share dally
strugg /es and successes thus diluting the sense of isolation for these
struggling families; and
WHEREAS, on November 18, 2010, Baby Basics of Collier County is celebrating the
distribution of one million diapers in Collier and Lee Counties since its
formation six years ago. Baby Basics of Collier County has provided diapers
to over 400 babies at seven distribution sites .
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier
County, Florida, that November, 2010, be designated as
BABY BASICS OF COLLIER COUNTY FLORIDA MONTH
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 9th Day of November, 2010.
