Backup Documents 05/25/2010 Item # 4BPROCLAMATION 4" WHEREAS, in December 2007 Congress declared the first week of June each year as National CPRIAED Awareness Week, and WHEREAS, the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association, together, support National CPRIAED Awareness Week and the national goal is to encourage states, cities and towns to establish organized programs that provide CPR and AED trainings and increase public access to AEDs, and WHEREAS, National CPR /AED Awareness Week would help increase public awareness by further educating Americans about the necessity of CPR and AED training and use to reduce death and disability from sudden cardiac arrest; and WHEREAS, the American Heart Association has the goal of training one mil /ion people during the year 2010, and WHEREAS, each year approximately 325, 0010 coronary heart disease deaths occur out of a hospital or m an emergency room and about 95 percent of cardiac arrest victims die before reaching the hospital; and WHEREAS, sudden cardiac arrest, which occurs when the heart's electrical system ma /functions and the heart stops beating, is one of the leading causes of death among adults /n North America; and WHEREAS, the Collier County EMS Department has stepped up to the challenge, setting an organizational goal of reaching a// county employees with the vita / knowledge and skills to respond to a life- threatening situation with confidence over the next eighteen months, and WHEREAS, June 1 through 7, 2010 marks the 501h anniversary of modern -day CPR as well as National CPR and AED Awareness Week. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that the week of Tune 1 through June 7, 2010 be designated as COLLIER COUNTY CPR AND AED AWARENE55 WEEK DONE AND ORDERED THIS 25th Day of May, 2010.
