EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Recommendation to award a Work Order to Preferred Materials, Inc., for construction of the
“Airport Road and Davis Boulevard (Phase2) - Northbound Right Turn Lane” project in the
amount of $518,443.49 (Project 60148).
OBJECTIVE: To approve a Work Order for the north bound right turn lane improvement along Airport
Road at Davis Blvd.
CONSIDERATION: On June 1, 2018, Transportation Engineering staff sent construction plans and a
bid schedule to four (4) construction companies who are under contract with the County under
“Agreement #16-6663 for Roadway Contractors.” Staff requested quotations from those contractors for
construction services for the Airport Road and Davis Boulevard (Phase2) - Northbound Right Turn Lane
project.
On June 22, 2018, the County received four (4) bids, as follows:
Contractor Bid
1 Preferred Materials, Inc. $518,443.49
2 Bonness, Inc. $533,836.00
3 Wright Construction Group, Inc. $619,825.76
4 Ajax Paving Industries of Florida, LLC $716,714.01
Staff determined the lowest bid was fair and reasonable and recommend awarding the work order to
Preferred Materials, Inc. The Procurement Services Division concluded that bidding was competitive.
The bid was 4.1% higher than the engineer’s estimate of $497,933.92. The work order and bid analysis
are attached.
FISCAL IMPACT: The anticipated cost for this intersection improvement project is $518,443.49.
Funding is available within project 60148. Source of funds are Road Impact Fees and or Gas Tax.
The estimated useful life of the roadway improvements is 20 years with minimal to no repair cost during
that duration of time.
GROWTH MANAGEMENT IMPACT: This project is consistent with the Transportation Element of
the Growth Management Plan.
LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS: This item is approved as to form and legality and requires majority ote
for Board approval. -SRT
RECOMMENDATION: To award a Work Order for “Airport Road and Davis Boulevard (Phase2) -
Northbound Right Turn Lane” project to Preferred Materials, Inc. in the a mount of $518,443.49, and
authorize the Chairman to execute the attached Work Order.
