Backup Documents 10/23/2012 Item # 4D PROCLAMATION 4 D WHEREAS, the mission of the Nap/es International Film Festival (NIFF), established in 2009, is to celebrate independent film and filmmakers in an intimate setting that enhances the cultural and artistic life of our community; and, WHEREAS, the film festival impacts the Collier County economy and benefits the community at large by collaboration with local artists and art organizations to nurture and grow film and arts education in Collier County Schools; and, WHEREAS, NIFF spotlights Southwest Florida and its talented pool of actors, writers, producers, and filmmakers to showcase Naples and Collier County as a destination for the entertainment industry; and, WHEREAS, the opening night presentation film is the documentary, "Honor Flight, " which follows the volunteers of the national group Honor Flight Network which sends World War II veterans on free flights to visit war memorials in Washington, D.C.; and, WHEREAS, the local chapter of Honor Flight for Southwest Florida, based in Port Charlotte, has a waiting list of 270 veterans and the network as a whole has flown more than 80,000 veterans to the nation's capital over eight years; and, WHEREAS, NIFF sponsors, volunteers, board members and festival participants encourage the community to support the festival by joining them on opening night at the Philharmonic Center for the Arts on November ft as well as at Silverspot Cinemas to enjoy the 49 films being shown. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that November .1 through November 4, 2012 be designated as NAPLES FILM FESTIVAL WEEK DONE AND ORDERED THIS 2.rd Day of October, 2012.
