Backup Documents 10/09/2012 Item # 4BPROCLAMATION ?;A B WHEREAS, Lighthouse of Collier, Inc., established in 2009, promotes the development, implementation and on -going evaluation of programs and services that foster independence and enhance the quality of life for the blind, visually impaired and their caregivers; and, WHEREAS, individuals living with blindness or vision loss and their caregivers now have access to education, assistive technology, mobility and adaptive living training and a myriad of other support services from Lighthouse of Collier, the only full service center of its kind locally; and, WHEREAS, visual impairment or blindness can be a taxing experience without the proper support provided by Lighthouse Collier to the more than 14, 000 individuals affected in the county; and, WHEREAS, it is important for al/ individuals to closely monitor the eye health of themselves, family, friends and loved ones through the observation of timely professional eye care and eye health awareness; and, WHEREAS, Blindness Awareness Month was established to promote good eye health and bring attention to organizations such as Lighthouse Collier who provide vital services to those with visual impairment and blindness. NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County, Florida, that October be designated as BLINDNESS AWARENESS MONTH DONE AND ORDERED THIS 9th Day of October, 2012.
