WHEREAS, the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) is a nonprofit health agency dedicated
to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS and related diseases by funding worldwide
research and providing comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy
and education, and,
WHEREAS, the MDA relies on donations for programs that are supported nationally and in local
communities by businesses, associations, organizations, and the care and dedication
of countless individual volunteers, and,
WHEREAS, Firefighters comprise a significant portion of these dedicated volunteers through
the Professional Firefighters Association fill the Boot" campaign for the MDA,
making them the largest source of funding; and,
WHEREAS, Florida Firefighters collected over $1.3 million in over 300 communities, including
Collier County; and,
WHEREAS, the MDA is extremely grateful for the support and dedication of Collier County
Firefighters which allows them to provide medical services at local clinics, summer
camps, research grants, support groups and public education seminars at no cost
to local families and children, and,
WHEREAS, the MDA urges all Collier County citizens to join them in honoring the efforts of
local Firefighters on behalf of the countless individuals served.
NOW THEREFORE, be it proclaimed by the Board of County Commissioners of Collier County,
Florida, that October be designated as
FIREFI61-ITER APPRECIATION MONTH
DONE AND ORDERED THIS 9th Day of October, 2012.
